What is the future of the Mexican Heritage Plaza, the museum and cultural center that opened in 1999? Operated by the City of San Jose, this unique cultural center features a theater, pavilion, art gallery, classroom space, and an outdoor square and gardens built in the architectural style of a traditional Mexican plaza.

On April 16 we heard Elisa Echeverria, the Mexican Heritage Plaza Transition Manager. Ms. Echeverria addressed the current plans for moving the Plaza forward towards an improved organizational and financial future.

After attending graduate school at Carnegie Mellon's Heinz College of Public Policy and Management, Ms. Echeverria began the Management Fellowship with the City of San Jose. There, she worked on the converged Network procurement project, the closure of the Downtown San Jose Medical Center and Level of Service GIS mapping. When she completed the fellowship, she fulfilled a life long dream by serving in the Peace Corps. She worked in Guatemala where she was assigned to the rural town of San Jose Poaquil. In addition with her work with the City, Ms. Echeverria is a member of the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, a member of the Multicultural Arts Leadership Initiative and a Puente mentor. A native of Sacramento, she is a graduate of UC Berkeley and has worked in San Francisco doing community outreach.
