Scott Knies is the founder of the San Jose Downtown Association and after 34 years is turning over the role of CEO on Nov. 4. What issues does he think still need to be addressed by his successor to make the 10th largest city in the United States a better place for its residents?  He answers our questions. October 20, 2022.

Cameron Hickey, Program Director of the Algorithmic Transparency Institute of the National Conference on Citizenship talks about mis- and dis-information that continues to divide communities.  Learn how to recognize it, the reasons it works, and how to respond effectively.  September 15, 2022.

Zulma Maciel, Director, Office of Racial Equity, City of San José, describes the work of her office in "Building a Welcoming San José through Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging".  The City of San José becamethe second city in California to become Certified Welcoming and the thirteenth in the Country.  See the Welcoming San José Plan.  Aug. 18, 2022

Ian Griffiths, Policy Director of Seamless Bay Area, an organization that seeks to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion by creating a world-class transit system throughout the Bay Area.  Learn about integrating the region's 27 transit districts to develop one easy-to-use system.

Joe Mathews, syndicated columnist, Innovation Editor at Zocalo Public Square, and a board member of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy discussed and answered questions about direct democracy reforms, a potential California Constitution Convention, and more.. He is also co-author of the book California Crackup: How Reform Broke the Golden State and How We Can Fix It.

Michele Young, Senior Management Analyst for Recycling and Waste Reduction in Santa Clara County, will discuss how our towns and cities and businesses are tackling the challenge of handling recycled organic waste.  What happens to the food you throw away?  She spoke to our League on April 21.

Otto Lee, the Santa Clara County Supervisor for District 3describes how our County plans to expand efforts and programs to help people struggling with mental and behavioral health.  He also answered other questions about county issues on housing, jails, and more.  

Michael Ogilvie is the Director of Public Art for the City of San Jose.  Learn how art is chosen and funded.  Enjoy an inspiring slideshow of some of our best public art. We are proud of how art brings residents together in our 10th largest city in the U.S. Learn more about our public art program 

Judge LaDoris H. Cordell is recognized in our community as a Municipal and Superior Court Judge and has also served in other roles in our county. In October 2021, her book "Her Honor" was published to much acclaim.  She describes her life on the bench and the reforms she recommends to improve our court system. We interviewed her on January 20.  The next day she was interviewed by KQED Newshour (skip to 5:38).
